Can Xfce plugins work outside of the xfce panel -- or a better way to compiz?

Why are you insistent about running Compiz on xfwm4?
It works very well with both, emerald and gnome-window-decorator.
Though it's been 3 months since I uninstalled Compiz (eye candy gets
old after a while ;), I was getting Compiz running at 350 fps on
integrated graphics (using the Compiz benchmark plugin).

The only integration issue for me was that the Xfce workspaces are
turned off by Compiz, but Compiz uses its own so it was no problem.
