Remote configuration

I don't see how that is possible if the command was indeed run on
machine B. Try the following for testing purposes:

john at a$ xhost +
john at a$ ssh -X B xfce-settings-show

and make sure B's /etc/ssh/sshd_config has "X11Forwarding yes".
