Default input method

Hi.

I installed scim to input Japanese characters; however, I  1) always have to
explicitly choose "SCIM Input Method" for each application and 2) this setting
gets discarded as soon as I close the application.

Is there a way to specify a default input method for Xfce or specify what
"Default" is?
