I am using said version. My panel height is almost at minimum with 20px, the
icon of xfce4-volstatus-icon stays at 22px (and 18px in height) when lowering
the height to 16px (which does not have any real effect) and only becomes larger
at 40px of height.

Hm, odd. I even removed my Macmenu bar plugin now just to make sure, but the
icon size still stays as it is.
