Several issues after upgrade to 4.4.0

Stephan,

I had some of these symptoms on an earlier version. I solved the problem
by using the settings manager. Xfce Settings Manager=>Desktop
Preferences=>Allow Xfce to manage the desktop (a check box at the top of
the window). Then log out (save the settings) and log back in again. Try
that and see if it helps...
