app. window placement

Hi,

When I run gvim (from the command line, if it matters), its
window always shows up in the same place -- forced to the upper
left corner of my screen, even if I run multiple instances of it
and thus have multiple windows open.  I.e., they all overlap
each other while there is other unused/available screen real estate
that could (should :) be used.  Is this my doing or xfce or gvim?
How do I fix it?
