display_plugin.so and NX

I've had display size problems using NX and the fix that I've found online
that does take care of it was to rename display_plugin.so so it didn't get
initialized by mcs. My question is what adverse effects will this have on
the workings of XFCE 4.4? What does this plugin manage and what am I giving
up by disabling this?
