Mouse problem

I know that it's probably not a good place to ask about it, but...
I have problems with mouse, she works in the 'dodgy' way. 
It works like that under any wm, when I am using new Knoppix 5.0 live... 
is that coused by the bad drivers?... because when knoppix is loading it shows that mouse is unknown device...
should I just change mouse? 
I want to use my fav wm - xfce, but with that mouse it's very irritating... :(
