I'm not sure. Nautilus is actually running, although I do not know why
because I am not using it.

It is possible that the problem arose after I selected the option to
start Gnome services on startup, because I prefer to use File-Roller and
I expected to use Nautilus instead of Konqueror when I wanted to open a
file from a browser, because Konqueror loses file associations.

I later de-selected the options to start both Kde and Gnome services.

I now have Thunar which is at least as good as Nautilus.

The menu shortcut I was using for Nautilus had the switch --no-desktop.
I will watch for the connection between Nautilus and the desktop problem
but, hopefully, Nautilus will not run for any reason.
