Session Saving

I've just upgraded to the latest xfce (4.99.2). Everything works great (and I love all the new stuff) but for some reason session saving no longer works. Even a simple exercise like starting a terminal window, logging out (with "Save session for future logins" checked) and then restarting xfce fails. It always starts up with all workspaces empty.

Can anyone can tell me what might cause this or give me some pointers to additional reading I should do?
