How to backup and restore XFCE configuration?

I've been using xfce at home for a couple of weeks now, and I love it.
Now I want to configure my PC at work the same as at home.  I installed
xfce4, then copied the entire ~.config directory to my PC at work.
But when I start an xfce session, the desktop appears as it does when
you first start xfce, i.e., no customization.  So, I tried deleting the ~.cache
directory, and that didn't help.  I also was looking under /etc for any
xfce files, but could find none.  How can I backup my xfce configuration,
then restore it?
