Ok, then use a popup. Given what you are trying to achieve, whatever you do,
the window manager will come into your way, one way or another.
By using an override redirect window (ie a "GTK_WINDOW_POPUP" as gtk+ call
them), it will not be managed by the window manager, so it will never get
covered. See code attached.
You can still tweak the code so places/resizes the window, it's just a sample
code... But it could help to find a solution within 56hrs ;)
