Jean-Francois the only two choices I available in the Printing System Selection are:
    None
    BSD-LPR

The upgrade to RC2 didn't fix the problem.

The daemon appears to running ... :(printing OK in KDE)

lp 3500 1 0 09:19 ? 00:00:00 /usr/sbin/cupsd
mepis 4197 4080 0 09:38 pts/0 00:00:00 grep cups

I thought I saw a post where you said you are using Ubuntu .... which version? (my system is Dapper Dan)
An upgrade was available so I tried that ... no joy -:)

Looked at the info in this bug report:
http://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2107

The locate function could not find the file client.conf
(However the cupsclient package is installed)

Can you think of any other reason why the Xfce can't see the CUPS server?

Thanks again for any help offered.
