Panel Problems

Mike,

   Thank you. It almost worked.

   After running this, the panel came up with the set size (instead of
"tiny"), but still without the virtual desktops (I have 10 open), and the
watch cursor did not turn into an arrow cursor. So I exited and tried it
again. Back to panel crash, the unwanted iconbox in the lower corner, tiny
panel, no virtual consoles, and no return of control to me.

   What's interesting is that despite the watch cursor, I can click on the
root window and see the menus, and I can click on the exit icon on the panel.

   Where to go from here?
