Methinks you misinterpreted things. The menu in .cache is *not* the
"real" menu. Assuming you have the "system" menu included in the menu -
either ~/.config/xfce4/desktop/menu.xml, or if you haven't edited yours,
$sysconfdir/xdg/xfce4/desktop/menu.xml, then your menu is generated from
.desktop files in /usr/share/applications, among other places. The FAQ
details this. The next time you install or remove an application, the
menu will notice this, regenerate, and your custom changes to the menu
in ~/.cache will be overwritten. You can, however, copy that menu.xml
file to ~/.config/xfce4/desktop/menu.xml and edit it there. Of course,
the menu will stop noticing app installs and uninstalls, and you'll have
to edit it manually from now on.
