XFCE crashes immediately after login

You mean after you did 'telinit 3'?  That's because the service was
killed.  'telinit 5' to get it back.

But if Xfce started, that seems like something is messed up with the
GDM session.  Can you confirm that it is working by itself, but not
when you start it from GDM?
