I thought I would check this out because I know how insanely annoying 
"tool tips" can be.

BUT, I cannot find out how to create a desktop icon, which probably 
sounds ridiculous.  I never use them because the desktop is always covered.

Is there a quick link to the howto?  I admit I haven't looked high and 
low because I assume the answer is near at hand.  Perhaps I've mislaid it?
