AFAIK, the XFC maintainer seems to have disappeared (sometime in late
August 2005?). I do hope I am wrong, but I wouldn't get too much
invested with XFC until the future of the project is clarified, if I was
you.

Xfce also have language bindings for Python and Perl. You may use one of
those, if they fit with your goals (which I think they may not do).

I do hope you will contribute to Xfce anyway. I also hope that the XFC
maintainer will reappear.
