Startup on 4.2 w/o using panel and tb

Hello all,

I have been using v4.0 for a while now and love it!
I get around by using the launcher(f2), context menu, and keys -- so I 
don't use the panel or taskbar.
To accomplish this, I edited the .xsession file to start only:
xfce-mcs-manager
xfwm4 --daemon
xfdesktop

Now that I've upgraded to 4.2, I followed the manual and tried copying 
and editing xinitrc into .config/xfce4/ to affect startup changes, but 
w/o luck.  Is there a correct way to do this?
