Why Are Icons Lost After Upgrade?

To be honest I can't really remember how it was done in 4.0 ;-) Anyway, 
in 4.2 the panel tries to use the global icon theme (can be changed from 
user interface settings dialog). This works if you choose on of the 
builtin icons. Old icons are no longer installed, so you will have to 
choose a new icon for those launchers.
