I hesitate to recommend this document to most casual users.  Even one of
the co-authors (Rick Moen) freely admits[1] that it's gotten out of
control and way too long to be useful as an intro to OSS mailing list
posting.  It's interesting and useful for geeks, in the "yeah, that's so
right, and I wish more people would follow this" sort of way, but we're
not the target audience.  Most people who are just trying to get help
are going to take one look at the length of that document not bother
reading.
