desktop background

Hi all,

I have installed xfce4-4.2.2-installer.bin on Mandriva LE (10.2).

The installation went fine.  However, upon the second time of opening xfce the 
desktop backround has been superceeded by mandriva's standard background (the 
background image that mandriva boots with).  Also the desktop menu has gone.  
I did alter the background upon first use - I changed it to a single colour.  
But no no matter what I do I cannot get it to change. 

Can someone help?
