Just run the installer with --extract-only, cd to 
/tmp/xfce4-4.2.0-installer, make your modifications and run ./bootstrap.sh.

Terminal is targeted at Gtk+ 2.4 (mostly because it would have been a 
complete waste of time to reinvent the GtkAction framework), whereas 
Xfce 4.2.0 is targeted at 2.2.0.
