$which xrdb gives /usr/bin/X11/xrdb, but /usr/bin/X11 is a symlink to 
/usr/X11R6/bin, where xrdb is in fact. So I don't see what the problem 
can be.

That was the problem as you suspected: libxfce4util did not get updated. 
I fixed it, and now xfce starts fine. Thanks a lot.
