Weird user-specific malfunction problem

Hi Olivier;

Thanks for the reply.
"which xfwm4" gives the same reply (/usr/bin/xfwm4) for all users including 
root.
Even when I run the secondary install of xfce (from the xfld install packages, 
which use xfwm4 from /home/ross/local/bin) I get this problem.
Strange, eh?
