battery and systemload panel plugins don't display 'progress bar'

Aha! That seems to have been the issue. Some themes must color the bar
the same as the background for the bar. I was using the 'Simple' theme.
There are probably a dozen or so themes that came w/ 4.2 which cause
this behavior.
