This is exactly what I did a few months ago, with one of the RC 
versions. I had lots of problems with some of the icon themes that I 
found on art.gnome.org. They would cause xfdesktop and/or xfce4-panel to 
crash and other instabilities associated with icons in some of the 
dialogs. Restarting did not help. I had to delete my ~/.config stuff to 
restore normal operation. I haven't tried it with 2.4.0. I'm not that 
curious.
