Although this is really a gdm question, look at the file referenced on
the "BaseXsession:" line in your /etc/gdm/gdm.conf
On my debian this is /etc/gdm/Xsession and it is the file with the
information for the "Failsafe" session.
If this is not the same for you, look at all the directories on the
"SessionDesktopDir:" line of the same config file. All the
other sessions in the gdm menu should be there. You can edit them and
whatnot, they are all just shell scripts.
