Using Desktop/Autostart with the session manager

On 4.0.X, I would change the autostart path in the xinitrc from
~/Desktop/Autostart to ~/Desktop/.autostart, just because*.  Now that
the session manager does its thing, that path is not editable from the
xinitrc.  Is it possible to configure this, or is it hardcoded into
the session manager's code?

*- While I understand that Desktop/Autostart is a default location, if
I use Gnome/KDE, I really don't want an Autostart folder on the
desktop.  Seems silly.
