Adding icons on XFCE desktop

Hello
I am new to list . I have built linux following BLFS book-5.1 and use
XFCE-4.2 as desktop . i also installed the office , pdf Viewer and Dillo
web browser and hole system is functioning properly .
Now i want to add icons on desktop , i tried a lot but all in vain .
So please any suggestion in this regard .
