So i did some quick tests and it seems some apps are well behaved.
The experiment: I created a launcher in the panel and the tried the
following by just changing the name of the command to run. Of course
"start up notification "was checked.
Apps that pass the "desktop aware test" (What i am caling this experiment.)
terminal 0.2.4 (yeah!, good job guys.)
firefox 1.0.2
apps that load to quickly to know.
gnome-search-tool
mousepad 0.2.0
gpdf
apps that fail
openoffice 1.1.4
gaim
rhythmbox 0.8.8
all the gnome ultilities for 2.10.1 (system monitor, print mamager,
network manager, calculator, etc)
totem 2.10
acroread 7.0
xpdf
soundjuicer
evolution 2.0
xfmedia 0.7.1
gimp 2.2
ther are probably more but you get the idea.
Anyway, so I this is not a XFCE problem but a more widespread problem.
Do you think it worthwhile to attempt to contact other projects on
this issue? Of course here is an implicit offer for me to do the
footwork. Is start up notification part of the freedesktop.org spec or
some other standard? Thoughts on gaining increased compliance?
