Panel hesitation

I have problems with hesitation in the panel. When I attempt to click 
on an icon or a menu in the panel, nothing happens for up to five 
seconds, then the application starts or the menu pops up. I never see 
this in KDE.

I notice this mostly with Kmail. I have spamc/spamd configured as part 
of Kmail (as well as ClamAV).

I have "Launch KDE services on startup" set in XFCE's settings.

XFCE 4.2.1, SuSE 9.2 with latest updates.

All suggestions are appreciated.
