The warnings are from the mixer plugin, but I'm not sure they are the cause of
the crashes. Could you try and remove
${prefix}/lib/xfce4/panel-plugins/libmixer* and see if that fixes the crash?

I'll let Danny handle the mixer problems, since I have no clue about that.
