To start with?

'/usr/share/sounds/'

or something similar (depending on your distro).

Additional WAV files can be had over the Web. It doesn't matter whether they are
from a Windows or Linux platform. ANy WAV file you find that you like is general
OK. I would suggest that you use short-length files. Timing can be a problem with
events where the program has no expectation of waiting for a lengthy sound file
to finish playing.
