Black desktop and no icon in configuration window.

On Slackware 9.1, I'm installed package of the xfce 4.0.3.1 and, after 
various problems, now working fine.
I'm tryed to upgrade at the latest version compiling source module (all 
in the correct order suggest on xfce site).

Ok, when I'm start with startxfce4 command xfce not loaded all; appears 
the two bars up and down on the screen, but the desktop is black. Files 
manager work, xmms too, but the configuration window is without icon.

Help me please.
