adding xfce4 option in kdm or gdm

This is very interesting.  I installed the session manager a few weeks ago but haven't been running it because when "Automatically save session on logout" is enabled, it doesn't log out.  It goes to a blank screen and then returns to the XFce4 desktop.  Could the fact I am using a script like your second example be causing this?  Should I refer the program to the /usr/share/local/xfce4 file?   I mean, I also added "xscreensaver --daemon" to that file.
