module error

I get this error a LOT when running general apps (eg. xmms) from XFCE4:

Gtk-WARNING **: Unable to locate loadable module in module_path: "libxfce.so"

however the file is clearly in a very accessible place(s):

$ locate libxfce.so
/usr/lib/libxfce.so
/usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.2.0/engines/libxfce.so

what is this error, is it important (it doesn't seem to stop anything working, but it's annoying), and how can i get rid of it?
