Logout / Save Session (again)...

After doing an apt-get update && apt-get upgrade most of my Xfce4
installation was upgraded but I am still unable to logout and / or save a
session.
I am finding it hard to believe that it is this difficult to do such a
simple thing, especially since I hear everyone else talking about it as if
it was something that just works.
I am in Xfce4 right now (after upgrading my system) and I will include a
printout of pstree below for anyone interested.
As can be seen from the pstree printout, I have xfce4-session running (along
with all of the other normal xfce4 programs) and I started the Xfce4
environment from the gdm login screen. Since all of this works without
error I am left to assume that I have the software installed correctly but
I still have no logout / save session option. The system button that exits
does only that and does not prompt for confirmation nor does it ask me if I
want to save the current session.
Maybe someone who has these options available to them can tell me what their
system looks like and how it behaves so that I can have something to
compare to.
If this is the wrong list on which to ask this question please let me know
where I might find someone more knowledgeable concerning this subject.
Thanks in advance.
