solved: no AA fonts in XFce4

in case anyone's interested, it turned out that it wasn't pango that was
broken, but gtk+2. i suspect that MozillaFirebird, the only gtk+2 app that
did have AA fonts, does some relinking before running the binary. i've now
recompiled gtk+2, and everything is sweet. XFce looks really good.
