the former sounds v superficial, that latter is a real constraint.

i use Mutt for e-mail -- powerful, flexible, simple --
& Open Office for wp/spread -- good M$ filters, reliable -- ,
but w your h/ware you may find OO a bit too slow.

i don't do any of the other things you mention,
except for addressbook, Mutt simply relies on aliases in  .muttrc .
