IIRC, the author removed SCO's right to distribute on the grounds that they'd
violated the licence. The GPL isn't a free-for-all. It's actually very strict
about the conditions that must be met if the right to distribute is to apply.
So, if a party violates those conditions, they forfeit their right under the
GPL to distribute. That is why there is much amusement (e.g. on Groklaw.net)
when SCO condemn the GPL and linux, then promptly announce they're
distributing the latest version of Samba. They're due a day of reckoning, but
IBM are determined to make them look as stupid as possible first - to prevent
any chance of a second case.
