dunno if it is xfce or claws, but have you tried specifing a size that
fits?  I was using gnome-multi-terminal and it would not remeber the
size I kept making it so in the command box of the panel launcher I put

gone-multi-terminal --geometry=77x24  # I worked fine

you may need to play with the number depending on the size you seek and
the resolution you are using.
