Transparent Terminals

Good day all,

    Is it possible to make the terminals transparent to the point where the
background of the terminal is the same as the background/wallpaper while
making the text a different color?  I have looked into the documentation to
no avail.  On a second note, is it possible to have a different background
for each work area?  If this has been documented someplace else, please
point me in the right direction.
