Do you use the same config files as with your previous version of xfce?
Is it possible, that evolution uses the environment var $BROWSER and in
your old, but not in your new config files, there was something like
"export BROWSER=/where/ever/opera" ?

Try export BROWSER=... in an xterm and then execute evolution from
there. Does it work?
