A weird problem with encoding

Hey, I have this problem with XFCE of which I'm not really sure what it relates to. It is the first time I've seen it happening, but this problem isn't there in GNOME.

Anyway, refering to the screenshot:

In the screenshot you can see the program (emelfm2) running twice. Down in the right panel of the left application you can see the encoding working properly, without any problems. This is achieved running the program directly from an Xterm.
The right application shows the result of running the same program using different XFCE-related methods (panel button, panel button+run in terminal mode, xfce-run, through the right-click menu etc.). As you can see, the encoding there is not working properly, instead of seeing the weird (hebrewic) characters, there's a blank line.

I know that this application running is GTK2 based.

Any suggestions?
