This is from the smproxy manpage:
smproxy allows X applications that do not support X11R6 session manage-
ment to participate in an X11R6 session.
.. so, since OO.o and Firebird supposingly don't support freedesktop.org
session manager standards they might work with smproxy. And smproxy is
the bridge to the XFce4-session manager.
