Configuring and shutdown in XFCE

I'm using XFCE 3.x from Debian/Sarge and have some questions.
1. How can I configure the Quit function that it makes a shutdown
instead of a logoff? I currently use XDM to start X. Is there a better
alternative without installing Gnome or KDE?
2. The panel/taskbar has currently 4 entries where I simply exchanged
netscape with mozilla and xedit with audacity. But I'd like to add xmms
as a fifth entry. Is this possible?
3. XFCE has like Windows these silly start/stop sounds and probably some
more. How can I remove these sounds?
