Two problems

Okay, we really need some debug info. I've never heard of such
problems...

0) What platform do you use (Linux, FreeBSD, NetBSD, Solaris, etc), what
version of XFree86, what version of gtk+, what distribution (in the case
of Linux)
1) Try to figure what tend to cause the problem: What were you doing at
the time of the crash, what apps were you using, etc.
2) Try to get some core dumps so we have something to dig in: Make sure
you have something like "ulimit -c unlimited" in your xinitrc and/or
$HOME/.bashrc
3) Once you have a core, run gdb -c core and type "bt" at gdb prompt:
That should generate some output that might be helpful
4) Check your $HOME/.xsession-errors, it's were errors are logged.

We really need as much information as possible, otherwise we shall not
be able to track down the problem you see.

Cheers,
Olivier.
