OK people,

If anyone could help me on this, I would greatly appreciate it.

Everytime I upgrade my mandrake installation, the same thing happens. I
loose
everything. Anyway ! Here goes !

I downloaded xfce-3.8.18-1.src.rpm from the xfce site; did the following :

# rpm -ivh xfce-3.8.18-1.src.rpm
# gunzip xfce-3.8.18.tar.gz
# tar xvf xfce-3.8.18.tar.gz
# cd xfce-3.8.18
# cp xfce.spec ../
# vi xfce.spec

the last command was given in order to edit the spec file and add
"--enable-old-style" so I can get the nice coloured buttons I treasure so
deep in my heart

# rpm -bb xfce.spec xfce-3.8.18.tar.gz

does it fine. Executables fine. Now check this;

If I do a manual "startxfce" (by being root naturally) from the command
line, it comes up fine.

If I invoke the Mandrake DM (display manager) or KDM (by being a plain
user), it comes up with no coloured buttons.

Arrggghhh ! HELP ! :-)

Anyone !!!

:-)

s.
