ok folks,
im pretty impressed by all the response. But why didn't just somebody point
out to install all the newest gtk librarys (with source of course) would
have been helpful.

I wasn't implying that missing devel packages had any connection to the
quality of xfce4. And i don't consider it to be alpha either, however i
don't think there's a strict definition of alpha & beta quality out there,
so this is really open for interpretation (moreso of the folks running it
than the folks who design it, IMO).

As have I. Don't get me wrong, i'm quite pleased & impressed with XFCE4
so far.
